Yik Yak the Anonymous messaging App Now Shares Images
It is now Official that Yik Yak has the ability to share photos, after months of testing.
The anonymous messaging app, which previously let users anonymously
post text-based messages only, announced on Wednesday it plans on
rolling out photo-sharing to all users over the next several days.
The start-up wrote in a
blog post "Sure, you could describe that amazing Eggs Benedict your mom just made
for breakfast (let’s be real, sometimes being home for summer has its
perks), but it’s often more tantalizing to share a drool-inducing photo
of it, too,"
.
It was reported in March that Yik Yak was testing out photo-sharing with a small
subset of users. To combat potential issues around nudity, bullying and
sexual harassment, the start-up had employees moderate those photos
before they appeared in the app.
According to Yik Yak, employees will continue to moderate photos
being uploaded by all users for the time being. It also reiterated
guidelines, including no inappropriate photos — or "anything you
wouldn't send to your mother" — or illegal content. Photos with faces
won't be allowed in local feeds, but they will be allowed in photo
collections, which can be found in the Explore section of the app.
